We work to get every fact right. When we don’t, we fix it openly.
How we correct errors
- Factual errors are corrected in the article as soon as we confirm them. A note at the bottom of the article explains what was wrong, what we changed and when: “Correction, [date]: An earlier version of this article misstated [fact]. It has been corrected.”
- Clarifications are added when a fact was accurate but incomplete or could be misread.
- Updates to race guides — new polls, rating changes, nominees — are marked with the date of the update at the top of the article. Updates are not corrections, because the facts changed rather than our reporting being wrong.
We do not quietly change or delete published facts.
